Ingredients:
2 cups Bread flour {extra flour for dusting}
1/2 cup warm
1 teaspoon sugar
1teaspoon salt
1 to 11/2 teaspoon instant yeast
4 Or 41/2 sausages, defrost and pat dry {sausages of your choice}
Egg wash (1 egg yolk and 1tbsp milk)
Sesame seeds
Poppy seeds {optional}
3 tablespoon softened butter
2 vegetable oil
Method
A} Sieve the flour, now add the yeast, salt and sugar. Stir it so that it’s all well mixed.
B} Add 2 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. (Reserve the last tablespoon butter for later).
C} Rub into the flour using finger tips until the flour has a crumbly texture.
D} Gradually add the warm milk, stirring it in with a wooden spoon at first until the dough starts to hold together, and then continuing to knead together with your hands until the dough has softened.
E} You need this dough slightly sticky, it’s a bit hard to handle but the result is worth the trouble. Just oil your hands slightly to help with the stickiness and keep kneading while you are adding a little sprinkling of flour when it gets too sticky to handle until the dough is nice and well-kneaded and formed into a ball.
F} Apply a touch of oil all over the ball of dough, place in a container and cover with a damp towel. Place in an airtight cupboard or in the oven or micro-wave Keep aside to rise till doubled in size. This process may take up 40 minutes to an hour
G} Divide the dough into 5 equal pieces and roll into small balls
H} Let’s start with the middle part of the flower bread, roll out the dough and add chopped 1/2 or one sausage. Seal the ends of the dough like a normal bun and make sure it looks like a small ball. Place it in the middle on a lined baking tray
I} Now take the second dough {small}, use a rolling pin to flatten it, place a sausage at the bigger end, and start to roll like a swiss. Filling / sausage can’t be seen, if the filling starts to show a little bit from the edges of the rolled dough just pinch those areas with your fingers to seal and keep on rolling.
J} Now slice the rolled sausage into half and then add them to the sides of the first ball placed on a lined baking sheet. See the photo below:
K} Repeat the rest till finished. Let it to rest for another 5 minutes.
L}Apply egg wash then sprinkle sesame seeds and poppy seeds on top.
M} Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C (no fan) for 15-20 minutes or 170C (fan forced) for 15-20 minutes or until well baked
N} When ready, remove and place them on a cloth and take the remaining half tbsp. of butter, and gently touch up the flower bread rolls with it to give the bread a nice shiny soft finish.
O} Cover the buns in the cloth for about 10minutes before serving. This gives the butter time to get absorbed fully into the bread rolls and it makes them soft.
Serve warm and enjoy!
